Aphorism 107– “Drug proving on Sick” – Lectures on Organon of Medicine

 Aphorism 107

§ 107

If, in order to ascertain this, medicines be given to sick persons only, even though they be administered singly and alone, then little or nothing precise is seen of their true effects, as those peculiar alterations of the health to be expected from the medicine are mixed up with the symptoms of the disease and can seldom be distinctly observed.

Explanation

The persons on whom the drugs are proved are known as ‘provers’. These ‘provers’ should possess certain qualities to qualify as homeopathic provers. One of the basic qualities is that the prover must be a healthy human being. He should not be suffering from either physical or mental sickness. This is because if he is sick, his original symptoms will get mixed up with the symptoms produced by the medicine. In that case, we will not get the symptoms of the medicine in their purest form.
